Morphettville Parks Dec 1 Selections and Comments by Peter Ellis

Race 1:

  1. Wiseman [5]
  2. Emconi Star (7)
  3. Crystal Beau (1)
  4. South Street Boss (4)

Race 2:

  1. Oberland (2)
  2. Benz (1)
  3. Set To Sparkle (6)

Oberland has been ultra-consistent since moving to Victoria. Easily dispatching smart So You Too Morphettville 1200m before desperately unlucky 3rd this course and distance.

Benz has mixed his form since winning Group 3 at Caulfield last year but latest 2nd this route was encouraging – stuck on bravely after leading.

Set To Sparkle, capable mare fitter for first-up 6th Karlovasi here two weeks ago. Drawn to get a cosy run.

Arrow Lane (4) back to his best winning bench 75 this route before solid 2nd favourite Lord Sundowner  1400m here last Saturday.

Race 3

  1. Box On Collins (4)
  2. Aagas (3)
  3. Crafty Devil (2)

Box On Collins showed staying potential last season and looks a stronger proposition this time around with two seconds over 1600m before a dominant victory 1950mn this course.

Aagas continues to hold his form and is just as effective racing close to the speed or coming from behind – a plus in what looks a tactical affair.
Crafty Devil hasn’t won in over 12 months but has been working home nicely, suggesting she’ll relish this trip while “iron horse” Exalted Craftsman [1] will appreciate the drop in grade.

Race 4:

  1. Kenyan Wonder (11)
  2. Sunmate (7)
  3. Smart Alick (5)

Kenyan Wonder battled on after facing the breeze 2nd [30/1] Left Hand Man this route then no luck when a fast finishing 2nd here last Saturday. Not a betting proposition at $1.50

Sunmate is getting better with experience placing at Naracoorte before 3rd Gawler 1100m led against the pattern.

Smart Alick was posted off the track 8th emerging Behemoth Morphettville 1050m then caught in traffic at a critical stage 3rd Left Hand Man this course/distance.

Ifotane [9] first starter from  Stokes yard. Keep safe.

Race 5:

  1. Pleasuring (6)
  2. Gracena (7)
  3. Savatag (5)

Pleasuring has been hitting the line strongly in much tougher races in Victoria and she does have a good record on the road, including luckless 4th in Gr. 1 Morphettvlle Oaks.

Gracena has taken time to hit her straps this campaign but she did work home stylishly behind Box On Collins here a fortnight ago. Take quinella.

Savatag has won three [1400m-1600m] of five since reallocating from New Zealand while Murray Bridge Cup winner Von Costa Glass [1] goes in wider exotics.

Race 6:

  1. Over And Above (3)
  2. Miss Labelle (4)
  3. Classy Jack [1]

Over And Above showed promise in handful of starts when trained in Victoria and was coming off a 37 week layoff when a fighting 2nd in-form Kabini this course and distance.

Miss Labelle wasn’t disgraced in a much tougher sprint at Moonee Valley after solid efforts this route and main track when made the running.

Classy Jack, tough 8yo anchored under big weights in two starts at Murray Bridge before close 3rd [54.5kg] this course/distance

Musical Query [7] had nothing go her way in first local prep but was impressive when dispatching lesser lights Murray Bridge 906m.

Race 7:

  1. Flying Krupt (1)
  2. Something Silver (8)
  3. Colesburg [6]

Flying Krupt wasn’t comfortable on soft ground last winter but is back on song. Chased hard 2nd lighter-weighted He Is Golden 1000m this course before thrashing favourite Laure Me In a fortnight ago.

Something Silver has always shown promise and she does appear more mature this time in, winning Benalla 1100m before closing 2nd in-form Miss Jane 1250m this course.

Colesberg resumes after a stint in the Northern Territory but did kick off last campaign with a strong finishing 2nd Vieira in this grade here in June.

Pamela Joy (3) won two of six since moving from Victoria and will find this easier than latest 3rd in-form

Like To Think So.

Race 8:

  1. Chapel City (1)
  2. Diamond Tycoon (9)
  3. Mr Gustavo (2)

Chapel City deserves a change of luck. Closed from rear 3rd Oberland 1200m this course then again set a task when 5th to Hussybay over 1550m. Graded to win.

Diamond Tycoon, lightly raced mare won three of four earlier this year but wasn’t sighted when returning behind Miss Jane 1250m this circuit.

Mr Gustavo, capable Victorian going much better than latest efforts would suggest. Posted wide behind Japanese import A Shin Rook at Flemington then back in a “sprint home” at the Valley.

Just A Bigger Dash [7] found the pace too hot in listed Durbridge then in trouble in two subdsequent starts this course while Adatto [5] is expected to pull out a big run fresh.
