AFL Round 9 Selections by Graeme Kelly

It would have seemed unlikely at the opening of the AFL season but Brisbane and Adelaide clash in this weekend’s marquee match at the Gabba on Saturday.

Both sides have five wins and three losses so far but a better percentage has the Crows third placed while the Lions are fifth.

With its defence holding tight the Crows proved too strong for Port Adelaide last weekend but the team’s attack is still not convincing.

The Adelaide forwards will be tested again, with former Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge proving invaluable for the Lions as he directs the team’s back men from his defensive position.

With Dayne Zorko, Mitch Robinson and Lachie Neale continuing to be prolific kick-winners the Lions may have the advantage in a close encounter.

Greater Western Sydney again showed the team’s difficulties at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last Sunday but have an easy chance of returning to the winning list against Carlton at the Giants Stadium on Sunday.

The Blues are trying hard but unfortunately are lacking cohesion when it counts.
