NRL Round 12 (Week 1) Selections by Graeme Kelly

An interesting split round with the State of Origin clash coming up next Wednesday.

After a win over Parramatta the confidence of the Penrith players will be on the rise going into the clash with Manly, who will be without Daly Cherry Evans and others, at Panthers Stadium on Thursday night.

A back from suspension James Maloney will replace Blues half-back Nathan Cleary as No.7 but this may still not be sufficient to swing the game the way of Penrith.

Top placed South Sydney will field a team decimated by the loss of players to State of Origin when pitted against Parramatta at Western Sydney Stadium on Friday night.

With Blake Ferguson returning to a wing and an improvement in their recent form the eighth-placed Eels could have the edge in a close encounter.
