Williams keen on Cup trio despite Irish St Leger shock by Michael Lynch

Three-year-old filly Search For A Song upstaged a slew of expensive and highly fancied Melbourne Cup candidates in only her fifth race start when she ran away with the Irish St Leger early Monday morning.

Legendary Irish trainer Dermot Weld is no stranger to Cup glory having won Australia’s greatest race twice with Vintage Crop in 1993 and Media Puzzle in 2002.

But back on home turf at the Curragh he played party pooper for Godolphin, Coolmore and Australia’s high-rolling owner Lloyd Williams when Search For A Song took up the running 1400 metres from home in the 2800m contest and played “catch me if you can” under jockey Chris Hayes.
