Trainer Ciaron Maher is happy for his former Coolmore galloper Southern France to tackle the Melbourne Cup without a preparatory race.
“They bounce off the plane and a lot of their first-up runs are their best. He was pretty right. I didn’t think he needed a lead-up run,” said Maher after his latest import worked well at Werribee.
“He had a strong gallop over a mile. He worked with a stablemate and didn’t look like there was much between them.
