Boom mare Sheza Alibi has taken another step towards a big spring carnival, winning her
1000-metre trial at Pakenham on Tuesday morning.
The Group 1 Doncaster Mile winner, trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman,
handled the heavy conditions on the synthetic track comfortably in her second trial this
preparation, having also trialled in late July.
Trainer Peter Moody was happy with her performance on the softer ground.
“Very happy she came through it very well, she had a nice gallop. She’s not unaccustomed
to soft ground being trained down here (Pakenham),” Moody told Racing.com.
“She has actually raced on soft ground and hasn’t minded it at all – so we are always hoping
we don’t run into heavy ground.
“I was very pleased with the way she recovered – she recovered very quickly by the time she
got back to us here in the enclosure – she wouldn’t have blown a match out.”
The now four-year-old has continued to progress well since her first trial of the preparation.
“She had a little blow after her first one (trial) – she is probably ahead of the game and
where we need to be at the moment,” he said.
The mare, out of Sheza Gypsy, is set to resume in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes on August 29,
with a number of targets across the country on the table, including The Everest.
