Team Williams and the Joseph O’Brien camp might have been in seventh heaven when they took out the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, but for small Cranbourne-based trainer Julius Sandhu victory in Flemington’s Country Cup Final on Oaks Day would have been as sweet, if not more so.
For the big battalions multi-million dollar races are part of the regular racing schedule.
But for a trainer like Sandhu, an Indian immigrant to Australia more than 20 years ago, the chance to compete in a race worth $500,000 rarely comes around.
