First of all, I would like to give you an update about the going which will be good to firm, with a risk of showers and a brisk wind, and about the prices for this afternoon at Newmarket: in the 1.50PM GMT True Mason (GB) (Mayson) is drifting and now you can back him in the UK between 11/4 and 100/30 (very good price also each way).
At 2.25PM GMT Frosty (IRE) (Galileo) is notwtrading between 15/8 and 9/4.
At 3.00PM GMT Limato (IRE) (Tagula) is between 7/4 and 15/8.
At 3.35PM GMT Hermosa (IRE) (Galileo): you can back her easily at 3/1.
On course, when the small bookmakers, who have pitches in the main stand, will open their books, eventually they will force those prices for the simple reason that they don’t have on – line betting, they don’t have telephone betting and the y didn’t open an ante – post book either.
In other words, they are “maiden”, they didn’t get any money for any horse at any price, for the ante – post betting and even for what is normally called “avant – bourse market”, the market before the official transactions will start in the Stock Exchange and in the market which we are interested in.
At that stage there will be two options: the big four (Ladbrokes & Coral, William Hill, Paddy Power and Bet365) will hedge their bets on course trying to reduce the Starting Price and the prices will drop or things could go the other way round, in a sense that the so called “High Rollers” don’t fancy the favourites so those prices will drift.
Let’s wait and see.
H 1.50PM GMT: they will be off and running in Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes, Listed, 11/4m, for 2yo, with a total prize money of £ 40.000.
Trust me, running over a mile and a quarter, or if you wish over 2,000 metres, on the Rowley Mile for a 2-Y-O is not easy: you must have stamina.
This is the reason why I should back Sydney Opera House (GB) (Australia) who has a Timeform Rating, adjusted for the race, of 119p (maximum rating in the race).
He is trading between 5/2 and 11/4.
Favourite at 9/4 could be Waldstern (GB) (Sea the Stars), he fetched Guineas 400,000 as a yearling at the Newmarket Tattersalls Sales.
He is trained by John Gosden and he will be ridden by Lanfranco Dettori, but in my opinion he hasn’t got the experience he should need for this race, having ran only twice.
The pace should be even and I think that my selection will have an edge.
H 2.25PM GMT Masar Godolphin Autumn Stakes, Gr-3, 1m, for 2yo, with a total prize money of £ 60.000.
The French Maestro André Fabre has moved Persian King (IRE) (Kingman), who has a Rating of 121p (top rating for the race) and a price of between 7/4 and 9/4.
The only concern could be the ground who will be good to firm and his jockey Pierre – Charles Boudot, who is not a specialist over the Rowley Mile.
H 3.00PM GMT Darley Dewhurst Stakes, Gr-1, 7f, for 2yo colts & fillies, with a total prize money of £ 500.000.
The pace could be weak.
Seven runners, but in my opinion, we should consider three of them: Anthony Van Dyck (IRE) (Galileo), Sangarius (GB) (Kingman) and Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi).
Their Timeform ratings adjusted for the race are: 133p, 120P (the capital P means that this colt is almost certainly capable of much better) and 134p.
Price wise: Too Darn Hot is between 5/6 and evens, Sangarius is at 7/2 and Anthony Van Dick is between 7/2 and 5/1 (but he was 9/1 before “The Lads” and Aidan O’Brien decided to scratch Ten Sovereign (IRE) (No Nay Never).
Too Darn Hot’s full brother, the day before yesterday, at the sales in Newmarket (Tattersalls Book 1) fetched Guineas 3,500,000 and was bought by David Redvers for and on behalf of HE Sheikh Fahd Al Thani (Qatar Racing).
His dam Dar Re Mi (Singspiel) is a daughter of Darara (IRE) (Top Ville), who is a half-sister to the extremely good horse and fabulous broodmares sire Darshaan (IRE) (Shaharastani).
Anthony Van Dick is a half brother to Bounding (AUS) (Lonhro), who is a Gr-1 winner in your country, but he was a sprinter; his dam Believe’n’succeed (AUS) (Exceed And Excel) is a Gr-3 winner “down under”.
Sangarius is by Kingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit), the new sensational sire in Europe (first crop are 2-Y-O).
His dam Trojan Queen (USA) (Empire Maker) is out of Banks Hill (GB) (Danehill), who is a daughter of the sensational Hasili (IRE) (Kahyasi).
The three horses have the ability to win not only the Darley Dewhurst Stakes, but also the English Derby.
Considering that Anthony Van Dick, at the Curragh, last time out, in the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes, Gr-1, 7f, finished second, slightly disturbed by the winner Quorto (GB) (Dubawi), my preference is for him each way.
That’s all at the moment for you guys.
Good luck.
Carlo Zuccoli
