After the way the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained Dalasan and the reigning Adelaide Premiership jockey Raquel Clark scored in the group 2 1200-metre Danehill Stakes down the Flemington straight, the answer has to be a resounding yes.

South Australian racing has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons as prizemoney stagnated, leading trainers left to set up in Victoria, interest waned and field sizes began to fall. What it needs more than anything is a genuine home-grown star to raise its profile not just in Adelaide but interstate, so South Australian race fans will be hoping Dalasan can be that horse.
