Racing Victoria’s decision to keep the spring carnival in its traditional timeframe and re-open the Werribee quarantine centre means international trainers can now target horses for the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups and Cox Plate with more certainty.
RV executive Paul Bloodworth, who liaises with trainers all over the world, to attract foreign entries to Melbourne in the spring, says the call to keep the festival in its usual time slot means top trainers in France, Ireland, England and Japan can now plan and target races more effectively.
“It allows us to talk to people with some surety about what is going to happen and when our races will take place. Having settled dates is a big help in forward planning,” Bloodworth said.
