Newmarket Preview by Carlo Zuccoli

Today is the last day of this very interesting three-day Newmarket Meeting featuring two Group 1 races for 2-Y-O.

The ground will be good to firm and good in places.

As I said the other day, all the races are running on the Rowley Mile or Cesarewitch course, which is two and half miles long, with a single right – handed turn at halfway, creating a ten furlong straight – course, the longest in the UK.

A wide galloping track with an uphill finish that is ideally for the big, long – striding horse, except for the descent into the dip where those types can become unbalanced.

Ability to see out the trip thoroughly is essential, and those who commit for home too early can be caught out by the uphill run to the line (from the Timeform).

1.50PM GMT: they will be off and running in Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, Gr-2, 1m, for 2yo colts & geldings, with a total prize money of £ 133,750.

Trust me, this is an extremely difficult conundrum.

Looking at the prices it could be worth having a go, each way, at 4/1, on Kadar (USA) (Scat Daddy), whose price as a yearling was € 700,000; he is trained by the in – form Karl Burke, who is based at Middleham Moor, North Yorkshire and he  will be ridden by James Doyle.

He won first time out over a Mile at a price of 5/2.

Another Scat Daddy colt, Beatbroxer (USA), paid USD $ 650,000 as a yearling, trained by Jon Gosden at Newmarket and ridden by Lanfranco Dettori is the favourite at 2/1.

He ran twice and he won both races.

The pace should be very strong.

Yesterday the major sponsor was Shadwell Stud, the nom de plume for his breeding operations of HE Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and today is the turn of Juddmonte Farms, one of the top racing and breeding organisation worldwide, which was established many years ago by HH Prince Khaled bin Andullah bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud from Saudi Arabia.

2.25 GMT Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes, Gr-1, 6f, for 2yo fillies, with a total prize money of £ 308,160.

Strictly on paper Pretty Polyanna (GB) (Oasis Dream), trained by Michael Bell at Newmarket and ridden by SDS alias Silvestre De Sousa, “Il Diavolo”, champion jockey, is the favourite at 6/4 with the top rating of the Timeform adjusted for the race (132).

Let’s go either for So Perfect (USA) (Scat Daddy) or for Fairyland (IRE) (Kodiac), a 950,000 Guineas yearling: both are trained by Aidan O’Brien, at Ballydoyle, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, the latter, at 13/2, is ridden by Donnacha O’Brien and the former, at 7/1, by Seamie Heffernan.

Two good each way bets.

Once again we are expecting a strong pace.

3.00 GMT Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes, Gr-1, 6f, for 2yo colts only, with a total prize money of £ 275,000.

The pace should be even.

Clean your glasses, get concentrated, call your bank manager and lump on Ten Sovereign (IRE) (No Nay Never who is by Scat Daddy), who will take a lot of beating.

He will be ridden by Donnacha O’Brien because Ryan Moore, took off at 9.30 for New York: he will ride Mendelssohn (USA) (Scat Daddy) in the Jockey Club Stakes, Gr-1, Gr-1, 1m2f, Dirt, for 3yo and upwards (have a go at 7/2).

Ten Sovereign will trade at around 6/4 on: he was very impressive, in Ireland, first time out, despite the fact that the horses trained by Aidan O’Brien don’t fire at all cylinders as debutantes.

I cannot see any horse who can beat him.

His main danger could be his stable companion, Sergei Prokofiev (CAN) (Scat Daddy), at 7/1 (a good each way bet).

Coolmore, who has the Head Quarters in Ireland, but also big operations in Australia and in the United States, in Kentucky, suffered a big loss when Scat Daddy (USA) (Tale of The Cat) passed away very young: he is one of the top producers both in the US and in Europe.

His last covering fee was USD $ 100,000, Live Foal, in the year 2016.

A friend of mine, who is a good judge, has sent me a SMS inviting me to have an each way bet in the bet365 Cambridgeshire Stakes (Heritage Handicap), Class 2, 1m1f, for 3yo+, with a total prize money of £ 160,000 due to be ran at 3.40 GMT: Very Talented (IRE) (Invincible Spirit), 5, trained by Saeed bin Suroor at Newmarket and ridden by Rossa Ryan.

They will go very fast.

Good luck!
