Newmarket Preview by Carlo Zuccoli
Today it’s not going to be easy, but let’s try to get at least a couple of winners to make our day.
Fillies will be on show all day long and the major sponsor will be HE Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Minister of Finance of the UAE, whose breeding operations are conducted under the name of Shadwell Stud.
Friday September 27th 2018, going good, good to firm in places,
1.50PM GMT: they will be off and running in Muhaarar British EBF Rosemary Stakes, Listed, 1m, for 3yo fillies and mares, with a total prize money of £ 40.000.
The pace will be strong.
I’ll go for Agrotera (IRE) (Mastercraftsman), 3, who ran well in a Listed race last time out at Longchamp.
She will be at around 11/4.
Please bear in mind that zero favourites out of ten won this race in the last ten years
Her trainer Ed Walker – assisted by the former jockey George Baker, who after a terrible fall in St. Moritz will change his job, in a few weeks, because he will be the agent for the jockeys William Buick and James Doyle – is in good form and her price of 11/4 is not bad at all.
2.25 GMT Princess Royal Nayef Stakes, Gr-3, 1172m, for 3yo+fillies and mares with a total prize money of £ 60,000.
Another conundrum.
The pace will be very weak.
All the Rating speak in favour of Star Rock (GB) (Fastnet Rock), 4, at 9/4.
Four favourites out of ten won this race in the last ten years.
3.00 GMT Shadwell Rockfel Stakes, Gr-2, 7f, for 2yo fillies, with a total prize money of 100,000.
The pace will be pretty strong.
It could be worth to flip a coin, but let’s try Yourtimeisnow (GB) (Charm Spirit) at 4/1 each way.
Only one favourite out of ten won this race in the last ten years.
3.35 GMT Shadwell Joel Stakes, Gr-2, 1m, for 3yo+, with a total prize money of £ 100,000.
Considering that the pace will be weak as it was at Doncaster, I believe that Mustashry (GB) (Tamayuz) can score again at 7/4, adding another win to the one during the St. Leger Meeting on the Town Moor.
Four favourites out of ten won this race in the last ten years.
H 4.45 GMT Mukhadram Godolphin Stakes, Listed, 11/2m, for 3yo+, with a total prize money of £ 40,000.
Once again there will be no pace at all.
I’m following one horse since a couple of years, Raheen House (IRE) (Sea The Stars), 4: his trainer, Brian Meehan was thinking very high of him for the Derby last year.
At 5/2 is my selection even if I have to say that Communique (IRE) (Casamento), 3, was my nap at Goodwood during the Qatar Festival of Racing and that day he duly obliged at 4/1.
Today his price will be 13/8 favourites, but only three favourites out of ten runners won this race in the last ten years.
Good luck!
