CAULFIELD

Race 1:

  1. Global Exchange (7)
  2. Thunderdome (9)
  3. Seberate [1]

Global Exchange is shaping up for this trip doing best work late when 3rd on debut Sandown 1300m before defeating older horses over 1400m at Pakenham.

Thunderdome showed potential last season and has improved with each run this time breaking through over this trip at Bendigo.

Seberate was anchored under 60kg at the Valley last time but will b better for that outing. Drawn to get a cosy run and he did race handy when 2nd in Gr. 2 Sires at Flemington last autumn.

Savvy Oak [1] made ground from last when 8th over 1500m at the Valley last time suggesting he will continue to improve as the distances get longer.

Firstclass Dreamer [6] underrated colt caught the eye when returning at Sandown then wide and off early 2nd Sale 1400m. Value runner.

Race 2:

  1. Al Galayel (5)
  2. Lucky For All (8)
  3. Belgravia 2]

Al Galayel, imported 5yo who has acquitted himself in four local start. Disadvantaged by racing pattern when nailed final 100m Rosehill 2000m before solid 2nd Flemington 1700m. Each way.

Lucky For All, talented 4yo beat emerging Furrion over 2000m here in May and will strip fitter for luckless 3rd Valley 1600m Sept 8 when race erratically.

Belgravia caught the eye when fast finishing 4th over 1600m at the Valley on resumption and does boast a 4th to England’s premier stayer Stradivarius in the Queens Vase at Royal Ascot.

Snitzepeg [1]never sighted daylight at Morphettville before covering extra ground when beaten a head Valley 1600m. Loves Caulfield.

Harmattan [11] was competitive in group class during first prep and is suited this distance following two starts from a break.

Race 3:

  1. Written By (1)
  2. More Than Exceed (4)
  3. Really Swish (5)

Written By, benchmark colt won first four starts including Blue Diamond this course before fighting 4th in Golden Slipper Reads the winner.

More Than Exceed had excuses when down the course in Diamond and does look a much more powerful unit this prep easily dispatching older opponents Morphettville 1050m.

Really Swish created a good impression in handful of starts earlier this year just failing to overhaul stable mate Thrillster in Bendigo feature 1000m.

Roosevelt [8] resumes. Overcame difficulties when successful on debut at Warwick Farm before pulling up with an issue at Rosehill.

Robe De Fete [6] underrated colt raced inferior ground when 5th [of 8] Pakenham synthetic but back on song with a determined victory Sandown 1000m.

Race 4:

  1. Tulip (1)
  2. Shoko (14)
  3. Mamzelle Tess [4]

Tulip has a big weight and a wide gate but does have a distinct class edge. Stiff not to beat Merriest on resumption then only secured clear running when race over when 5th Land Of Plenty at the Valley.

Shoko, lightly raced 5yo looked good beating lesser lights Lakeside 1400m then in front till final 50m 2nd promising Our Libretto Hillside 1600m. Suited back to 1400m and is drawn ideally.

Mamzelle Tess, underrated 6yo who invariably pulls out a big run at Caulfield and will strip fitter for closing 2nd Valley 1200m.

Lady OF Flanders [10] has come back extra well following an extended break winning at Caulfield and Hillside before luckless 4th Bryan here three weeks ago.

Smart As You Think [5] capable mare who usually finds trouble and as a result has only won the one race while Istria [7] goes in wider exotics. .

Race 5:

  1. Bandipur (8)
  2. Bons Away (2)
  3. Spending To Win (9)

Bandipur has always shown good ability and has returned in fine shape scoring at Randwick and Flemington before 6th Valley 1000m when thwarted by racing pattern.

Bons Away usually comes to hand quickly and did kick off last campaign with a close 5th [of 18] Russian Revolution in Group 1 Oakleigh Plate this course and distance.

Spending To Win has been placed in all eight starts this season including listed events at Hawksbury and Scone. Drawn to get a cosy run.

Whypeeo [7] boasts an outstanding short-course record in Queensland – including 2nd in Gold Coast Guineas- but was a tad disappointing when resuming in Gr. 3 here Sept 1.

Marsupial [11] hit a purple patch of form when last in training and is good fresh Trialled nicely at Rosehill.

Eduardo [16] faces a steep rise in grade but has demolished his rivals in two career starts.

Race 6:

  1. Reginae (9)
  2. Assertive Play (7)
  3. Anjana (8)

Reginae, Newcastle trained filly who looked genuine group class when running away from her rivals Randwick 1300m. Drawn to get a dream run.

Assertive Play won both starts at the end of last season despite doing plenty wrong but has certainly improved since. A tragedy beaten when resuming in Atlantic Jewel Valley 1200m.

Anjana created a good impression over winter winning three on the trot then simply settled too far back after drawing wide at the Valley.

Krone [3] honest filly hit the line hard when resuming behind the well-ridden Thrillster over 1200m at the Valley suggesting the extra 200m will suit.

Mystic Journey [4] won four of five in Tasmania and was an unlucky 5th at the Valley while Kinky Boom [2] is over the odds if you dismiss her failure over 1500m.

Race 7:

  1. Our Venice Beach (5)
  2. Night’s Watch (10)
  3. Folkswood (1)

Our Venice Beach was placed in Group 1 in France as well as behind the outstanding Cracksman when trained in Europe and was very good on local debut lumping 60.5kg 2nd Valley 2040m.

Night’s Watch, ex Kiwi getting better with each campaign. Sprinted quickly when a runaway winner 1400m this course before solid 3rd in WFA 1600m at the Valley.

Folkswood has to overcome a wide barrier and a big weight but is top class. Kicked off last spring with an effortless win in Cranbourne Cup before 3rd to Winx in Cox Plate.

Odeon [16] failed to find his best last prep but is back on track with solid efforts in three starts this time in. Drops to minimum weight and is drawn to get a cosy run.

Divine Unicorn [12] lightly raced 5yo beat a decent field in Group 3 Tatt’s Cup at Doomben in June and has looked the part in both runs since.

Race 8:

  1. Home Of The Brave (2)
  2. Osborne Bulls (4)
  3. Land Of Plenty (8)

Home Of The Brave was runner-up twice in time-honoured Lennox Stakes over this trip at Glorious Goodwood and has brought that form to Australia. Found the race-hardened Voodoo Lad a tad strong at Flemington before doing it easily in Group 2 1300m at Rosehill.

Osborne Bulls, carefully placed 5yo should have won four of five last prep – including two this distance – and has come back well beating Land Of Plenty  here five weeks ago.

Land Of Plenty was pushed right off the track when a close 8th in this race last year and has certainly thrived this year winning four of past six.

Oregon’s Day [13] underrated mare just missed in Group 1 in Sydney last autumn and is going equally as well powering home when 5th in WFA Memsie this route. Drops 4kg.
Mr Sneaky [12] looked home till collared by stable mate Santa Ana Lane in this race last year. Ridden too close last time and excellent first-up 3rd Valley 1100m.

Peaceful State [15] has loads of potential but will need luck from his wide draw.

Race 9:

  1. I Am Excited (7)
  2. Epidemic (8)
  3. Ellicazoom (2)

I Am Excited, Sydneysider who has been ultra consistent since being kept to sprinting winning three of five last autumn. Strip fitter for 2nd in Gr. 3 this route and drawn to get the gun run.

Epidemic hit a purple patch of form last prep winning three on the trot including a listed event at Sunshine Coast [1200m]. Drawn wide.

Ellicazoom, ex WA mare didn’t come up last prep but was very impressive winning Cockram on resumption albeit with benefit of fast lane.

Global Glamour [1] quality mare kicked of last spring with a victory in Group 2 Tristarc 1400m this course.

Sylpheed [9] had no luck when resuming and is right in this on her best form. Value runner.
