Shoals Heading To Sydney For The Premiere by Neale Donnelley

EVEREST runner SHOALS will head to Sydney for the Group 2 $500,000 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick after trialling at Cranbourne this morning.

Rod Douglas, Racing Manager to owner Jonathun Munz (Pinecliff Racing), told Peter Ellis Racing at Cranbourne this morning the mare was now off to Sydney.

“The Premiere looks the right race for her now,” Douglas said.

“We thought about the Moir but it was 1000-metres again (same as her first-up run) so we’ve decided to go for the 1200-metres of the Premiere then into the Everest,” he added.

Connections were satisfied with her on-pace second at the trials this morning.

“She did what we wanted her too and that will keep her ticking over,” Douglas added.

The three-time Group 1 winner resumed at Moonee Valley two weeks ago when a closing third behind fellow Everest runner Nature Strip.

That was in the 1000-metre Group 2 $200,000 McEwen Stakes where the winner ran a track record.

Shoals Group 1 wins have come in the Myer Classic at Flemington, the Surround Stakes at Randwick and the Sangster Stakes at Morphettville in Adelaide.

The four-year-old Fastnet Rock mare has now won seven of just 11 starts with earnings of more than $2 million.
