Alligator Blood snaps Guineas rivals as Acting puts on Prelude show by Michael Lynch

Alligator Blood stamped himself a real threat to Caulfield Guineas favourite Dalasan when he raced prominently and beat the pre-post favourite home in the Guineas Prelude for colts and geldings on Sunday.

The win gave former Melbourne rider Ryan Maloney a winner back at his former base, and half an hour later the New Zealand-owned Acting, trained by Kiwi expatriates Natalie Young and Trent Busuttin, put herself right into contention for the Thousand Guineas when she made all the running under Tommy Berry to spring a $21 shock in the fillies prelude.

Connections will, however, have to fork out a $27,000 late entry fee after she was left out of the original entries after what Busuttin described as an “administrative oversight”.
