Adelaide looking to be Ace on Derby Day as Falls stakes Oaks claim by Michael Lynch

Fifteen years ago transplanted trainer Lindsey Smith – he has now shifted part of his operation from Perth to Warrnambool – won the Victoria Derby with a WA galloper called Plastered.

He could pull off the feat again with Adelaide Ace, a progressive three-year-old son of Savabeel who put his claims on display in the 1800-metre Derby trial at Flemington on Wednesday.

Punched out by John Allen, the three-year-old landed the $33,000 prize from Southern Moon and Sacramento at only his third racecourse start.
