AFL Round 12 Selections by Graeme Kelly

North Melbourne’s caretaker coach Rhyce Shaw has an ideal chance to boost his claims for a permanent role when the Kangaroos meet Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

The new and aggressive approach Shaw instilled in his players proved successful when the Kangaroos defeated Richmond by 37 points last week.

It was exactly the type of display Shaw – a veteran of 237 games with Collingwood and Sydney – wanted from his team as Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Cameron Zurhaar and Jed Anderson led the way.

Now Shaw’s group go into a match against the Suns, who are struggling down in 17th place after a promising start to the season so another win seems assured.

The situation is not so bright for David Teague, who has been named as Carlton’s caretaker coach after the dismissal of Brendon Bolton.

The 18th placed Blues are pitted against the fifth place Brisbane at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

The Lions are on a role and the Carlton players will have to really lift their game if the team is to be competitive.
