Catanach’s Jewellers has been named the Official Heritage Partner of Melbourne Racing Club’s MRC150 celebrations, recognising a partnership that has helped shape some of Australian racing’s most iconic trophies for more than 50 years.
Catanach’s first partnered with Melbourne Racing Club in 1974 and, since renewing the relationship in 2006, has crafted many of the Club’s most prestigious trophies, including the Caulfield Cup and Blue Diamond Stakes.
As Official Heritage Partner, Catanach’s will craft a commemorative trophy for the historic 150th running of the Sportsbet Caulfield Cup, featuring a sterling silver, gold-plated band marking the milestone running of one of Australia’s most iconic races.
Handcrafted over approximately 250 hours from 1.2 kilograms of solid 9-carat gold and valued at approximately $530,000, the Caulfield Cup trophy comprises nine individually hand-spun, soldered, filed, polished and engraved components mounted on a hand-turned Australian timber base.
Beyond the commemorative trophy, Catanach’s will hold naming rights to the Catanach’s Jewellers P.B. Lawrence Stakes and present the new Catanach’s Jewellers MRC150 Retrospective, celebrating the Club’s rich history and the people, horses and moments that have defined it over the past 150 years.
The partnership will be celebrated at Catanach’s Jewellers P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day on Saturday, 15 August.
The MRC150 Retrospective will feature an interactive timeline in the Members’ Grandstand, while members and racegoers will be invited to enjoy a range of heritage-inspired experiences, including vintage fashion celebrations, commemorative food and beverage offerings and the MRC150 photo booth.
Melbourne Racing Club Chief Executive Officer Tanya Fullarton said the partnership reflected the importance of preserving the Club’s history while celebrating those who had contributed to it.
“MRC150 is an opportunity not only to celebrate our history, but to recognise the people and organisations that have helped shape the Club over generations,” Ms Fullarton said.
“Catanach’s has shared in many of our greatest moments, with its craftsmanship forming part of the tradition and prestige of racing at Caulfield.
“It is fitting that our longstanding partnership will now help members and racegoers connect with that history throughout this milestone year.”
Catanach’s Jewellers Managing Director Amanda Catanach said the partnership was a source of great pride for the family business, reflecting a shared history and longstanding commitment to the Club.
“We are incredibly proud and privileged of the longstanding partnership between MRC and Catanach’s, which extends beyond the trophies we create to our support of the MRC Foundation and the important charitable work of the Club.
“Our family business takes great pride in creating trophies of distinction for MRC, ensuring owners receive pieces that reflect the quality, style and prestige of racing at the Club.
“We congratulate MRC on 150 years of excellence and are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone alongside the Club, having recently marked 150 years of our own family business.”
The MRC150 celebrations will continue throughout the 2026 racing season, culminating in the historic 150th running of the Sportsbet Caulfield Cup on Saturday, 17 October.
