Bob Peters is keeping his expectations measured as Bletchingly winner Cosmic Crusader
embarks on his spring campaign.
The W.A raider took out the 1200m event in late July under the care of Victorian trainer
Andrea Leek, winning the Group 3 event by 2.5 lengths.
“He has been good since that win, he had a quiet week and he has had three weeks
between runs and now we are getting him ready for the next one,” Bob Peters said.
The six-year-old will head to the PB Lawrence on August 15 before a Group 1 encounter
with the likes of Sheza Alibi and Mr Brightside in the Memsie a fortnight later.
“I’m not really looking at anything past the Memsie, we will see how he is going when we
get to that,” Peters said.
“The long-range plan is for him to come back here (Western Australia) for our races at the
end of the year.”
A potential Makybe Diva or Turnbull tilt for the son of Maurice are not off the table just yet.
“We will start planning for the future once we get to the Memsie, whether he is up to the
strong ones – they will come from everywhere for that, “ he said.
“We will go from the PB Lawrence to that (Memsie) and then will well look at how we are
going after that.
“There are plenty of races in Melbourne over this time of the year.”
Cosmic Crusader current sits at an $8 chance for the Memsie with boom mare Sheza Alibi
the $2.10 favourite.
